Spanish

Welcome to Spanish

january
¡Hola!

My name is Maria Murphy and I am very excited to be teaching Spanish to your children. This is my 3rd year as part of the Holy Name of Mary Family and I'm pleased to teach Spanish language to
grades 4 - 8.

We have a lot of exciting things coming our way this month. We will be building basic language skills which will be a great foundation for language learning in the years to come.

GRADE 4, 5 & 6: Students are learning "Buenos Modales". This means "good manners". The vocabulary words learned this month will be centered around being polite. We will be using these words in "real life" situations such as greetings, giving and receiving gifts, ordering from a restaurant, doing a favor or being the recipient of a good gesture. The vocabulary will be listed in their Spanish Notebooks and practiced in class.

GRADE 7: Students will be learning the verb "tener" which means "to have". This is an irregular verb, so close attention will be paid as to how it is conjugated. Students have written notes in their Notebooks and will use it as a constant reference. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CHILD HAS A DESIGNATED NOTEBOOK FOR SPANISH CLASS.
I collect and grade the notebooks.

GRADE 8: Students are learning the "preterit" tense of verbs (past tense). They are learning how to differentiate between present and past tense conjugations.
PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CHILD HAS A DESIGNATED NOTEBOOK FOR SPANISH.
The books are collected and graded.

Students requiring extra help may schedule time to see me during recess on Thursdays.
I look forward to working with your child. Feel free to e-mail me with any concerns or questions.
