Maria Murphy and I teach Spanish on
Tuesdays and Thursdays to grades 4 - 8.

Our classes will be learning the following:
       
GRADE 4: This month, we began by learning about "Dia De Los Muertos" which is a Mexican holiday which celebrates the lives of dearly departed relatives. Students learned the traditions such as creating an "ofrenda", sugar skulls, marigolds, decorations and music. We watched the animated film, "The Book of Life" which depicts this holiday. We added to our vocabulary list and also created our own Sugar Skull designs.
We will also be learning vocabulary associated with Giving Thanks, in recognition of "Dia De Accion De Gracias" (Thanksgiving)

GRADE 5: 
We learned about the Mexican holiday, "Dia De Los Muertos" and it's traditions. Students created their own Sugar Skull designs and watched the animated film, "The Book of Life" which takes place during this holiday.
Students are learning to express their likes by using the phrase, "A mi me gusta". They created pictures including this phrase to describe things that they like.

GRADE 6: The class learned about the traditions involved in celebrating "Dia De Los Muertos". Vocabulary was introduced and students discussed the similarities to this holiday and Halloween, All Saints Day and All Souls day.
Students will continue to build their vocabulary skills as they learn words associated with family. They are learning how to create sentences both singular and plural.

GRADE 7: We learned how to express weather conditions as well as vocabulary for Days and Months. Students practiced describing weather.
We also learned about the influence that Hispanic culture has on the entertainment industry. Students learned about the life of singer Selena Quintanilla and the impact she had on the music industry. We watched the movie about her life.

GRADE 8: Our class has been learning the names of various food items in Spanish. As a project, students created a restaurant menu which incorporated the new vocabulary words.
We also learned about the influence that Hispanic culture has on the entertainment industry. Students learned about the life of singer Selena Quintanilla and the impact she had on the music industry. We watched the movie about her life..
