It's
crunch time! With silent steps and a pumpkin bucket overflowing with Nestle Crunch bars and Sour Punch straws, students in Grades 6-8 "ghosted" one another this morning. Students had to knock on middle school classroom doors to drop off the candy bucket and dart away to avoid being spotted. The 8th grade is less than a week away from the Catholic High School Entrance Exam, so this CHSEE Spirit Week kick-off activity not only played on multiple-meaning word "spirit," but gave the students a little excitement to energize and shake up the day.
Mrs. Powell was incredibly nice and contributed candy to the communal bucket!
Several 8th graders experienced the ultimate challenge when Mrs. DeRosa's classroom door was open during their "ghosting" mission (pictured above). Their laughter got the best of them and a confused sixth grader got caught up in the commotion!
As a special bonus at lunchtime, 8th graders enjoyed Halloween Oreo cookies and ghost-themed treat bags (pictured below). The sacks were filled with Sour Patch Kids, Swedish Fish, Air Heads, lollipops, and various candy bars (e.g. Milky Way, Snickers, 3 Muskateers, and Twix).
As previously mentioned, the "ghosting" activity for the first day of our CHSEE Spirit Week was selected for its word play on the multiple-meaning word, "spirit":
spirit (n.)
1. a supernatural being or essence
2. enthusiasm and energy
