The 8th graders received their autograph books and dispersed throughout the school to get their classmates and current and former teachers to write small messages in them. Since teachers do not receive autograph books, Ms. Brown started a tradition in which she would choose a picture book that reflected the graduating class in some way and have the students that year sign their names on its endpapers. The perfect literary version of an autograph book! This year, a student in the Class of 2021 received the Scholastic Book Fair flyer and found the title of Ryan T. Higgins's WE DON'T EAT OUR CLASSMATES hilarious, so he had only one mission at the book fair: immediately find and buy that book. He had the entire 8th grade class huddled around him at the end of the day as he flipped through the book's pages, laughing at the plotline's ridiculousness. The unexpected 8th grade enthusiasm over a picture book made Higgins's book a shoo-in for the Class of 2021's picture book.
