HNOM's chapter of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) hosts an induction ceremony at the beginning of each academic year. For Grades 7 and 8, students qualify based on their academic achievement and conduct from the prior year. The NJHS recognizes and promotes scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character in HNOM's middle school.
For the 2021-2022 academic year, the NJHS was led by Mrs. Powell, as moderator, and Mrs. Carberry, as a faculty advisor.
NJHS members are required to complete a major community service project. NJHS members have raised money for Ukraine, organized gift card raffles to support the Bread of Life soup kitchen in Brooklyn, collected pet products for Bobbi and the Strays in Freeport, hosted bake sales during lunch, volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House, and helped serve food at the PTL's annual "Breakfast with Santa" event.
As an annual tradition started by retired NJHS moderator, Miss McEnaney, the NJHS hosts a Thanksgiving Food Drive to replenish Parish Outreach's food pantry after the autumn holiday. For a well-rounded food collection, each grade level in the school is assigned a type of non-perishable food, like cereal, tea/coffee, canned fruit, pancake mix, etc.
