To celebrate the nation's School Nurse's Day, each grade at HNOM created cards for Mrs. Baxter to show their gratitude and appreciation. Students were so excited to deliver their homemade gifts! Thank you for being an incredible part of our HNOM school community, Mrs. Baxter!
As students in Grades K-8 prepare to take the end-of-the-year iReady diagnostic, a surprise visit from Plory - an iReady character - encouraged students to do their best on the math and reading assessment!
Students in Grade K-4 read their own original poems to a panel of judges to compete in HNOM's 2nd Annual Poetry Contest. With trophies and student costumes, the contest was a magnificent celebration of April as "National Poetry Month." Thank you for organizing and hosting the event, Miss Cutrone!
Nursery students in Ms. Lara's class learned about Earth Day and discussed how everyone can take care of our natural home. By bringing in plastic water, soda, and juice bottles, students dipped the ends in paint to create blossoms for a creative flower painting using recycled materials!
HNOM celebrated the Eucharist in their Easter School Mass. Ms. Fischer's first grade class did a wonderful job reading the Prayer of the Faithful and bringing up the gifts. At the end of mass, first grade signed and sang the song, “Jesus, Name Above All Names. ”
On Secretary Appreciation Day, HNOM students signed cards and crafted gifts for our two school secretaries, Mrs. Bagwandeen and Mrs. Schroeder. Thank you for your dedication, organization, and hard work!
This spring, Mrs. Chesterton's Kindergarten class is learning about life cycles in science. For a hands-on learning experience, caterpillars arrived to their classroom! The students are so excited to watch these caterpillars grow into butterflies!
In Ms. Fischer's first grade class, students brainstormed places they would love to travel in order to visualize and write about the different activities they would enjoy on the dream vacations. Students created fake passports and inserted their photographs into their vacation's iconic scenery to complete a comprehensive travelogue about their imagined adventures!
After Sunday's April "School Family Mass," the congregation was invited over to HNOM School's gymnasium for light refreshments and a Bible craft based on the Gospel reading. HNOM students enjoyed assembling the popsicle stick activity and coloring in the "I walk with Jesus" picture!
Continuing this year's new tradition of monthly School Family masses on Sundays, HNOM students and parents gathered with the Valley Stream parish to celebrate the Eucharist. 7th grade lectors read and HNOM's handbell choir and choir performed at the mass.
After two days working on an English Language Arts test - 4/19 and 4/20 - Miss Cutrone's fourth grade class enjoyed donut holes to celebrate the end of the stressful and cumulative NYS examination. Great work, 4th grade!
Upon return from Easter recess, 8th graders were surprised with their Class of 2023 T-shirts and sweatshirts, which were maroon with their signatures on the back design. With pride, the students delivered their T-shirts to the teachers and administrators who ordered. Several class T-shirts were also mailed to former teachers and administrators to remind them that they are missed and still a part of the HNOM family!
In anticipation of Easter, nursery students in Ms. Lara's class enjoyed a variety of traditional spring activities. Students dyed real eggs a variety of colors. As an Easter project to capture the joy of Jesus' resurrection, students in Ms. Fischer's first grade class created crosses with designs through which an internal light shines! Click the article's title to see more photographs!
Fifth grade students in Miss Mehring's class performed the Stations of the Cross for the entire school in the church. Through narration and acting, the HNOM tradition brings the story of Jesus' death and resurrection to life. Click the article's title for more photographs of the performance!
Ms. Fischer's first grade class and Ms. Lara's nursery class surprised HNOM's librarian, Mrs. Mikowski, with thank you cards and gifts on "National School Librarian Day"! Ms. Lara's gift was inspired by Eric Carle's picture book, "Very Hungry Caterpillar"!
