8th graders dressed to impress for their field trip to
Theatre Three'sperformance of
Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol. From the theater's textured ceiling and ornate carpeting to the street escort dressed as a Victorian gentleman when they piled off the bus, Theatre Three immersed the 8th grade in a special experience. Students enjoyed the retelling of Ebenezer's Christmas Eve encounter with the supernatural!
Students were mesmerized during the dramatic entrance of Marley and jumped in their seats at the thunderous and towering appearance of the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. Even the scene in which Scrooge just questions Bob Crachit's use of
his coal was raw and emotional. The lighting effects had students talking at intermission - from the red flashes that accompanied Marley's chilling call for Scrooge to the multi-color dazzle that ushered in the jolly Ghost of Christmas Present.
During the Q&A session at the end of the performance, one of the cast members mentioned the use of a
scrim. Several 8th graders immediately looked at Ms. Brown because "scrim" was a term taught during their drama elements unit in English Language Arts class. Ms. Brown was so proud of them for applying their learning during the field trip!
Thank you for the joy and talent you brought to the holiday plight of Scrooge, Mr. Sanzel and Theatre Three! And thank you, Mrs. Powell, for attending the trip with the 8th grade!
