This week, 8th graders began school service, a program in which students volunteer to assist different teachers around the building during their recess time. Through an application process, students request an available position and explain why they would be a good candidate. For example, students can help Nursey or Pre-K students during lunch or sticker papers and cut out project templates for elementary teachers. To aid middle school teachers, 8th graders can organize papers and books or setup hands-on activities. Therefore, school service allows students to lend a helping hand in numerous ways. From November until February, 8th grade students will earn and track their service hours, which count toward the 15 hour minimum required in 8th grade. Mrs. Powell, Mrs. O'Connor, and Ms. Brown oversee the 8th grade service program.
