To bring the themes of O. Henry's short story, "The Gift of the Magi," into the school community, 8th graders wrapped and decorated simple gifts for their teachers in a literary spin on "Secret Santa." Due to the Magi's gift of gold to Jesus, students chose from a plethora of gold decorating supplies: gold wrapping papers (foil and sheen), glittery, curly, and starry gold bows, gold curling and mesh ribbon, and golden sticker gift tags. The true challenge was not in staying within Della's $2 spending cap for each teacher, but wrapping the two candy-filled plastic candy canes! The 8th graders look forward to delivering them safely to their teachers (i.e. gloves, masks, Ziploc bags, etc.).
