To conclude "Keep Our Spirits Up" Week, 8th graders worked together on a shared Google Doc to write a collaborative story using origami characters they researched, created, and anthropomorphized! First, students searched online to find a doable origami project. Then they put their paper-folding skills to the test. After brainstorming 2-3 character traits for their paper creature, students added several sentences into a shared story to introduce their character and portray its character traits through indirect characterization - its thoughts/feelings, speech, actions, etc. - while staying true to the plot, setting, and characters that their classmates already contributed to the story. The activity not only put their creative thinking to the test, it encouraged remote collaboration and narrative storytelling.
